Photoshop tips

Most common and useful shortcuts and tips!

-To select the different options in the same tool.

Navigate through the options in the same tool pressing SHIFT and then the tool shortcut.

For example, with the marquee select tool, you can select the different options by pressing SHIFT and then M to switch between the square and rounded marquee tool.

-Eye dropper tool, when you are using the brush tool.

While you are using the brush tool, press ALT (win) Opt (mac) to switch between the eye dropper tool and the brush tool.

-Create an empty layer

(win) Ctl + Alt + Shift + N - (mac) Cmd + Opt + Shift + N.

-I do recommend to add a custom shortcut for a white layer mask

In my case I did set: (win) Ctl + Alt + Shift + M - (mac) Cmd + Opt + Shift + M.

-Healing brush and Spot healing brush, by default they are using J, I recommend to set one of them to K instead.

In my case I did set: J for healing brush and K for spot healing brush.

-Save for web. Be sure you check "embed color profile" and "convert to sRGB" before saving. This will prevent color profile issues when uploading to web.

(win) Ctl + Alt + Shift + S - (mac) Cmd + Opt + Shift + S.

-Hide all the panels (don't panic!) If all your tools and panels just dissapear from the screen.

Just press Tab and you will toggle all the panels visibility.

-Brush circle just gone and I see a crosshair instead.

Just press Caps Lock. It will turn the crosshair back into a brush circle.

-Brush opacity and flow change.

For change the brush opacity, you can press the numbers, 1 for set the opacity to 10%, 2 for 20%, etc. For change the flow, hold shift and then click the number.

-If your brush stop working, don't worry. Just check these 4 things...

Check the brush blend mode in the top bar, at the left of the opacity value, and be sure it is set to normal.

Be sure the opacity and flow is set correctly, for check, set it to 100% & 100%

Be sure you do not have any selection active and you are painting outside the selection. Press Cmd + D to deselect all (Ctrl + D on Windows.)

Be sure the layer where you are painting is visible and the opacity and fill value is correct. For test, set these values to 100% & 100%.
